EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. Dr. Dupuis has been trained to utilize EMDR therapy in her work with individuals and couples.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR therapy was developed by Francine Shapiro in the 1980s after she discovered that eye movements facilitated the trauma-related memories she was working on. The theory behind EMDR therapy is that traumatic memories are stored in an unprocessed state and that the eye movements help to process these memories.

EMDR therapy has been found to be as effective as other evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), for the treatment of PTSD. EMDR therapy is also effective for the treatment of other disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. A study by the University of Johannesburg found that EMDR therapy was more effective than cognitive-behavioral therapy in the treatment of panic disorder.
